A Third Track

The Family's Map

Chest tight, translating your own “normal.”

Becoming: Relational & Culturally-Specific Development

A child grows through recognisable stages. The relationships holding them, parents, co-parents, grandparents, aunties, the whole kinship network, move through their own, shaped by the specific cultural inheritance each family carries.

Why this page

Becoming maps the individual child. But the relationships around that child, parents, co-parents, extended kin, move through their own arc, shaped by the specific cultural inheritance each family carries.

It already exists in practice as Roots vs Routes, our parenting program. Each stage below names the session it corresponds to, and the relational patterns that tend to show up there, real and specific, but never assumed of any one family based on where they're from.

The research behind treating multiple caregivers as genuine attachment figures is laid out in full at An Inclusive View of Attachment.

Roots vs Routes is where this family track lives in full detail, seven sessions, each already mapped to a stage above.

"Becoming, as built, is really the individual's map. Roots vs Routes is already the family's map. It just hadn't been named as running on the same spine."

Everything on this site is built on our published model. Read the full framework here.
