Family of Origin

Six Sessions

Looking at where you actually started. Not to assign blame, but to understand what you are carrying, and why.

An illustrated collage of families and elders across generations and cultures
What this is

Some of what you carry was never really yours. It was handed to you quietly, long before you had the words to question it, in the rules your family lived by, the roles you were given without being asked, the things nobody ever said out loud.

This group is a space to look at all of that clearly, alongside others doing the same work. Not to relitigate your childhood or diagnose your parents, but to see the system you came from for what it actually was. Once you can see it, you get to choose what comes with you and what you set down.

You do not have to carry it the same way just because it is where you started.
Who this is for
  • You have noticed patterns repeating, in your relationships, your parenting, your own reactions, and you want to understand where they actually came from.
  • You have done individual work before and feel ready to look at your family system directly, in a room with others who understand.
  • You are navigating the specific weight of migration, cultural distance or family separation, and want a space that holds that context rather than a generic version of this work.
  • The relationship with your mother is the centre of it, more than the wider system. What She Couldn't Give Me holds that one relationship on its own.
  • Your family's response to your sexuality or gender identity is part of what you are carrying, whether that was rejection, silence, conditional acceptance, or a welcome that came with terms attached.
  • You are ready to separate what is genuinely yours from what was only ever the family's.
The six sessions

The arc

Session 01

Where You Started

Mapping the actual family system: who held power, who held silence, who held everyone else together.

Session 02

The Rules You Didn't Choose

Unspoken rules, roles and hierarchies absorbed long before they could be questioned.

Session 03

What Got Passed Down

Naming the patterns and coping strategies inherited across generations, structurally, not as a personal flaw.

Session 04

The Silences

What was never said out loud. Migration losses, family ruptures, a person's sexuality or gender known and never spoken of, the things everyone knew but nobody named.

Session 05

Separating the Roots from the Weight

Distinguishing genuine inheritance and resilience from the parts that were only ever a burden, not a gift.

Session 06

Carrying Forward, Differently

Choosing, deliberately, what stays and what gets set down. Closing with intention, not just insight.

Where it comes from

This group draws directly from Roots vs Routes, Anoshe's own published framework. Roots was never just a word we liked. It is the actual family history, culture and continuity each of us carries. This group is where that idea becomes something you can sit with directly rather than only read about.
